Kai Gergov

Born 2010 in Vienna in a family of musicians, Kai began to learn piano with prof. Vladimir Kharin and violin with prof. Marina Sorokowa at the age of 4. Shortly after, he continued studying violin with prof. Dora Schwarzberg and from 2019 on, also with prof. Wladislaw Winokurow.

From the age of 5 he began to study solfege and music theory with prof. Violaine de Larminat. With 6 he was admitted to the piano class for highly gifted children of prof. Vladimir Kharin at the mdw-Vienna, where he studied until 2018, until he decided to dedicate himself to the violin only. Since September 2019 he is studying at KUG, Graz in the class of prof. Wladislaw Winokurow. At the age of 11, he also started to study conducting with his father, Rossen Gergov. He has absolved masterclasses with Maxim Vengerov and Midori. In 2026 he participated at the masterclass of Mihaela Martin, organised by Stauffer Academy, Cremona. Among his supporters are names like Emmanuel Tjeknavorian and Moni Simeonov.

Kai could win various prizes, both as a violinist and pianist. 2015 he won the special prize for youngest contestant under the age limit at the Henle Piano Competition. 2016, 2018 and 2020 he won 1st prize with distinction at “Prima la Musica”, both with piano and violin. 2017 he won 1st prize and special prize for best Bartok interpretation at the “International Bartok Piano Competition”, as the youngest contestant. At the “Josef Micka Violin Competition 2018” in Prague, he won the 1st prize, 2019 at the “International Grumiaux Violin Competition” he won also 1st prize. At the “Vasa Prihoda New European Talents” 2019 he won both Grand Prix and 1st prize. Kai is the winner of Grand Prix (Absolute Winner) of the “Kocian Violin Competition” 2021. In 2023 he won 1st prize at the „International Mozart Competition“, Georgia and also the Special Prize of the „International Cultural Federation 21st Century“. In 2026, Kai became the National Winner (“Bundessieger”) at the Austrian National Competition “Prima La Musica” and also won the Vienna Symphony Talent Prize. He will make his debut with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in Konzerthaus, Vienna in October 2026.

His 1st public appearance was at the age of 5 with the violin. At the age of 6 he played for the 1st time as a soloist with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, this concert was broadcast on the Bulgarian National TV. Shortly after, he made his debut with the Sofia Soloists. As a winner of the 1st prize of the “Goldene Note” by IMF, Kai gave his debut at the Musikverein Vienna in March 2018 at the age of 7. In March 2019 he made his debut at the Konzerthaus Vienna as a soloist of the Young Masters Ensemble. In February 2020 Kai gave his debut at the Carnegie Hall, New York. In June 2020 he played with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vienna – this concert was also broadcast on TV. Kai had a fantastic success at the festival “Golden Violin of Odessa” in September 2021, where he had numerous concerts, solo and also with orchestra. As an absolute winner of „Kocian Violin Competition“ 2021, he appeared as an honourable guest at the opening of the following edition as a soloist with orchestra. In 2023, Kai appeared at the festivals Sofia Music Weeks, Plovdiv International Chamber Music Festival and ArtDialog Festival,

Switzerland. Also in 2023 he gave his conducting debut with Sofia Soloists. He played as a soloist with various orchestras in Austria, Poland, Czech Republic and Bulgaria, there are further projects with different orchestras planned in season 26/27, such as Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Mozart Orchestra, Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra and others. Together with his brothers and the Pleven Philharmonic, he gave the world premiere of „G-Force“ by Viktor Ilieff in 2024 – a work for trio and orchestra, written and dedicated to „Trio Gergov“.

Despite his young age, Kai could gather a rich concert-experience: as a soloist of an orchestra, solo-recitals, or with “Trio Gergov” (together with his brothers Rey and Leo) in venues such as Musikverein Vienna, Konzerthaus Vienna, Carnegie Hall, Theater an der Wien, Mozart House, Austrian Parliament, Palais Lichtenstein, Rachmaninov-Villa Senar. Other important experiences were his audio- and video-recordings for the ORF and the Bulgarian Radio. Kai is playing on a violin by Antonio Gragnani (1751).
