Yi Wang

Violinist/Violist

Wang Yi, violin teacher at the Lanzhou University of Arts and Science, is the council member of Chinese Musicians Association, Gansu Musicians Association and Lanzhou Musicians Association.

Yi has been invited as jury for many professional violin and music competitions. She is one of the professional examiners in the Committee of the Standard Grade Examination of the Chinese Musicians’ Association.

She has made remarkable achievements in both teaching and scientific research. Yi was awarded numerous times during her 39 years of teaching, such as the "Gardener Award" (the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and the Gansu Provincial People’s Government, China), the first prize of the Young and Middle-aged Teachers' Instrumental Music Competition (the Chinese Secondary Education Association of the Ministry of Culture, China), the first prize of the "Dallas International Arts Festival Competition" (the United States), the first prize of the "Fourth Hong Kong International Arts Festival" (Hong Kong) and the first prize of Chamber Music of the 13th Youth China Competition (China).

Wang Yi has published 14 academic papers, e.g. the monograph “Music Appreciation of College Students”, and “The History and Future of Western Classical Music in China” etc. The paper of “The Teaching Goals of Music Subject” and “A Brief Talk on the ‘Harmonics’ of Stringed Instruments” was awarded the second prize of China Secondary Art Education Association.

Nearly a hundred of her students were admitted to the well-known music academies all over the world, such as the Central Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music and China Conservatory of Music in China and several music academies from other country (e.g., the United States, Germany, Italy, and Belgium etc.).

Yi has won the Outstanding Instructor Award of the "Dallas International Music Competition” and the tenth and twelfth sessions of the "Youth China Competition”. She was invited to be the judge member of several international music competitions (e.g. the "Singapore International Music Competition" and “ Ysaÿe International Music Competition" etc.) and the Gansu Province Children's String Competitions.

In 2016, Yi established the only public welfare youth chamber orchestra in her province. In 2019, her orchestra performed a special concert on the "70th Anniversary of the National Day” which was invited by the Publicity Department of Wuwei Municipal Committee. The orchestra has held a number of charity concerts at home and abroad since its establishment, receiving unanimous praise from the society. Meanwhile, Yi has participated in social welfare activities for many times and hold special concerts of "Caring for Special Children” during the previous years.

She was invited by Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra to participate in large-scale dance performances (e.g., "Dream of the Dunhuang") in Australia, France and other countries. Besides, as the leader of the violin and viola subject of the Lanzhou University of Arts and Sciences, she was invited to participate in the "First International Viola Art Festival" of the Central Conservatory of Music. In addition, she led young teachers of her school to participate in the "International Music Festival" exchange activities in Malta, Belgium, the United States and other countries.

The Young Teachers Chamber Orchestra of her school won the gold award in the "Dallas International Music Competition" in the United States. Also, she has organized many times to lead young teachers from her school to investigate and study in Yale University, Stanford University, Columbia Juilliard School and many other well-known colleges and universities.
