Eric Sluys
Violinist
Erik Sluys is among the most prominent Belgian violinists of his generation.
After brilliant studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, he pursued further training in Germany, first with Prof. Joshua Epstein in Saarbrücken, and later with Charles-André Linale in Düsseldorf. He was also strongly influenced by great masters such as Sándor Végh, Yfrah Neaman, André Gertler, and Zakhar Bron, with whom he took part in several masterclasses.
From 1996 to 2016, he was associated with the Flanders Symphony Orchestra as assistant concertmaster.
For over 20 years, he has been a permanent member of the ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, with which he has performed countless premieres of contemporary works.
Since 1998, he has formed a regular duo with his wife, pianist Katsura Mizumoto, performing throughout most countries in Europe and Asia, in venues such as the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Baltic Philharmonic Hall in Gdańsk.
Their CD featuring violin sonatas by Babadjanian and Janáček received high praise from the international press and was chosen as “CD of the Month” by the specialized magazine Luister.
Erik Sluys is also a renowned pedagogue: as a teacher at the Anderlecht Music Academy, the Kunsthumaniora Brussels, and the Brussels Conservatory, he has trained numerous winners of national and international competitions.
In his role as musical director of Brussels Sinfonietta and Brussels Violin Days, he is dedicated to giving the new generation of young violinists as many opportunities as possible to develop themselves as musicians.
